Global energy crisis may last for years, warns the European Union

Published 04/22/2026

The European Commissioner for Energy, Dan Jorgensen, warned on Tuesday that the global energy landscape remains highly challenging, even under optimistic scenarios. Ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran continue to directly impact global energy supply.

According to Jorgensen, the current crisis could reach levels comparable to major energy disruptions in modern history, such as the crises of 1973 and 2022. The continuation of conflicts in the Middle East is likely to keep the market under pressure, with effects that may last for months or even years.

The commissioner emphasized that even in a scenario of immediate conflict resolution, structural impacts would not be quickly reversed. The recovery of gas production in Qatar, as well as the rebuilding of the logistics infrastructure required for transportation, could take more than two years.

Additionally, Jorgensen stated that global liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices are not expected to decline significantly in the short term. The outlook points to a still volatile market, with elevated costs persisting over the coming years.

This scenario reinforces the importance of constant monitoring of global markets, especially assets highly sensitive to macroeconomic and geopolitical events, such as energy and commodities.
